The name Timewave Project stems from the great Terence Mckenna’s Timewave Zero theory, which is a fractal function based on divinations derived from the King Wen Sequence of I Ching hexagrams that maps time into states of novelty and habit. His belief is that the complexity of the universe is inexplicably linked between these states, where novelty is a rise of complexity while habit is a state of uniformity/conformity. He created software using the I ching hexagrams because while Western religion has been focused on stories of the human condition, Eastern religion has been much more focused on understanding the universe itself. Therefore, using multiples of 64 from the hexagrams themselves, Mckenna was able to create the Timewave software to map Habit/Novelty on a time graph, where 2012 would be the concrescence of novelty to exponentially increase.
People used 2012 as a scare tactic to make money, sell trinkets, and make shitty action movies. However, this was the same year CERN found the Higgs Boson particle and also the year Facebook reached 1 Billion concurrent users. This source of interconnectedness has brought people together and divided others unlike anything ever seen. Therefore, Mckenna’s idea seems to have some validity, and he himself even mentioned he never believed it wouldn’t be the end of the world, but rather the end of the world that we knew.
If you look around at what we’ve become and how attached we are to things like social media, online dating, and 24/7 live news cycles, we are diseased beyond recognition. But, there is hope, and that hope is to create and share the things we love. That’s the idea of The Timewave Project; to create, share, and recognize that there are things beyond our control and recognition. We must adapt and change as a race or we are sure to fail. Sometimes the only thing that can change the world is art, so this is how I start my story. This is The Timewave Show.
